June 15th, 2009. A year ago today The Warm Up dropped. I'm taking this moment and appreciating all the love and support that I've received from yall. All that love ya'll gave allowed me to hit the road and perform these songs for you before I even had a single out. It's wild to me when I show up in places like Houston, Atlanta, Richmond, Ohio, University of Maryland, NYC, so many other cities and schools, and the whole crowd knows every word to every song. Seeing that it's so early in my career, only 1 single out, that's a blessing. Thank you.

A year later and people are still getting put on to The Warm Up every day. Slowly but surely ya'll, just like it was supposed to. The album is coming, your patience is gonna pay off.

The greatest boxer of all time Muhammad Ali on The Arsenio Hall show in 1989. Arsenio then brings out my favorite boxer of all time Mike Tyson and it's interesting to see Ali's reaction and respect for Tyson. Iron Mike was the Lebron James of the boxing world around this time, it's scary how hard he punched people. Arsenio asks Ali the classic question; if both fighters were in their prime, who would win. Ali being modest, gives it up to Tyson; but even as a Tyson fan I don't know about that one. Ali took major punches in his career, but then again never fought a pit bull style fighter like Tyson. Tyson never fought a fighter smarter than Ali. Not to mention that quick and elusive.

4 in the morning, I'm in the hotel in Michigan and can't sleep. I been meaning to blog for the longest so why not now.

Currently reading some comments on youtube for some of my favorite songs of mine (hold it down, song for the ville, show me something, others..) thanks for the love yall.

If you haven't heard by now I'm opening up on The Blueprint 3 tour. When I say opening up, I mean REALLY opening up. A nigga goes on stage like 10 minutes before the show is actually scheduled to start! Ha! I love it though, its all a part of paying dues and earning stripes. The highlight of each night comes when I get my minute of shine on stage to do "star is born" with hov. Arena jam-packed with thousands, and each time I step on that stage I know that "this is where I wanna be." Takes a lot of work (and a lot of hits) to get to that point in your career, but I'm ready to start the journey.

I be KNOCKED OUT on the bus. 12 and 13 hours at a time.

What else...

All I will tell yall about the album is that it's coming along much faster than I thought it would, and that the shit i've done so far feels reeaal special. I don't know what that means in terms of release date, but I believe everything will happen how and when it's supposed to.

I'ma try to be more frequent with the blogging. It's bad enough I only twitter random shit once every 3 days, just to say I did it.

I got good news.. and bad news

The bad news is The Warm Up will not be dropping today (Don't shoot!).. I know, I know. But this is the final push back. There were some loose ends that still need to be tied, but the FINAL official date for this mixtape is June 15th. With the couple new joints I added last week I can confidently say it's worth a 2 week wait.

But, I still feel terrible for the 4 of us that were waiting to get it today (ha!) So I had to come with a whole lot of good news to compensate.

1. Last summer me and the most incredible up and coming directors BBGUN shot 3 videos, which all connected like a mini short movie. The 1st part was "Lights Please", which flowed into "Simba", and the 3rd was for this amazing song that you guys will hear in the future. The videos came out crazy, and we've been sitting on them for like 10 months.

2. We're throwing a release party for The Warm Up in both NYC and Fayetteville, NC. The NYC date is tentatively June 15th, will give details when it's locked in. The date for the party in the Ville is lookin like June 25th. I'll keep everybody updated.

3. "Lights Please" will be on my album. But we're putting an early version of it on The Warm Up. This is the song/version that got me to Jay.

4. Same goes with "Losing My Balance", early version on the mixtape.

5. My website should be up tomorrow.

6. I just saved a ton of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.

2 Weeks Away

We are officially TWO weeks from the release of The Warm Up, my second mixtape. It's going down to the wire, I'll probably be adding and subtracting songs up until the last second.

It's time to start throwing shit out there though, to give people a glimpse of what's coming soon. Here is a DEFINITE off of The Warm Up. My second stab at Dead Presidents. The first was on The Come Up mixtape, and it's really interesting for me as a rapper to play both versions back to back and hear my own growth in the past 2 and a half years. This is one of my personal favorites from The Warm Up.

I had an incredible time last night at the Chapel Hill show. This was my first performance in North Carolina since my deal, and it felt better than I dreamed. Carolina is a place that's hungry for great hip hop music, and thirsty for someone from home to truly root for on a major level. That's what I always hoped to be for us.

I changed up my set last night for the home crowd, and for my last song I decided to perform one of my favorite joints off The Warm Up. The outro to the mixtape, "Last Call"

Luckily, AychKay caught footage of the song at a great angle, and put it up (thank you). I decided to share with yall, .

Life is good. Was out of town for a few days doing some shows in VA. Loving the experience of opening up for these unfamiliar crowds. Winning people over is tough when you're not the one they paid to see, but its something I look at as a challenge.

This time's for real

Ok this time is for real. To anyone reading this, this is the official restart of the restart of this Dreamvillain blog ha. I signed my record deal on February 24th of this year, but if you know me you know it's been a long hard journey to even get this far. But those years of dedication and faith have only gotten me to the starting line. Now it's time to race.

Grateful to my manager Mark Pitts, ByStorm Entertainment, Jay-z and the whole Roc Nation family for the opportunity. Grateful to my immediate team, a bunch of Dream chasing motivated people who believe in me (thanks) and only make the journey that much better. My loved ones who held me down through the darkest and brokest of days.

Enough with the emotional, let's get this blog going. This is my way to communicate directly with any fans I might pick up along the way that want to know my thoughts. I remember being (dangerously) in love with Alicia Keys when I was like 15 and I used to hit her website aliciakeys.net (still remember) everyday waiting for a "Diary" update from her. I thought it was so sick to be able to get a glimpse into what she was thinking or doing at times. Maybe one day this will become that type of thing for a fan or two out there.

First off.

Congratulations to Weezy and Hov. I'm sure you heard. But I just wanted to put it out there how much I appreciate and respect their accomplishments. Wayne selling a million first week (more than deserved), and Jay-z headlining the Glastonbury Festival and putting on an incredible show.

Any artists out there know what I mean when I say these types of things are inspirational, motivational, and just a reminder that regardless of what has or hasn't been, anything is possible. A nigga like me loves to see the greats do it like this, and dreams to take it even further.

On that note, the summer is passing quick. Gotta utilize that good energy that the season brings while its still here. Great things are falling into place, and I can't wait to sneak up on the world.

Hate to Love

Couple things I believe and want to write down while they're on my head.

I believe that mistakes are inevitable. A mistake can either be dwelled upon or learned from. Those who dwell on their mistakes live in the past, while those who learn from their mistakes live for the future. simple enough.

I also believe that there is no such thing as Hate, only Love. I believe that "hate" is really just the inward and unconscious suppression of love. For instance, subconsciously, I believe that racists don't actually "hate" other races. I feel that the outward "hatred" is really just a reflection of an inward conflict. This conflict occurs when the societal or psychological factors tell a person they should feel disdain towards something, but their inward emotions are actually that of love.

To sum it up, if you hate something, deep down what you really "hate" is the fact that you love it.

to clarify my point.. think about this. How many times have you "HATED" a song when it first came out? Only to eventually end up lovin the shit, and rationalizing it by "it's so catchy!" Did the song change from when you first heard it? Naw, but what probably did change over time was your resistance to Love the song in the first place. "Sexy Cannnn I"

A Message to the Dream Chasers

First blog. First post. On the real, I have no clue what this blog is gonna turn into. I debated whether it would be hip hop based, or more social/political. I decided though, to let go of any expectations and just let shit flow however it may. No rules, restrictions or guidelines.

On that note, an introduction is necessary.

J. Cole. Rapper and Producer out of Fayetteville, North Carolina. I spent my college years in NYC at St. John's University. I used college as the tool to move closer to the music industry, as music has been my dream since 13. Now graduated (Magna Cum Laude, holla), all energies are devoted to the steady climb to the top.

I still represent the Ville in all of my music. It's important that I give all due respect and loyalty to the city and state that molded me through all of my experiences. It's my ultimate dream to see my city shine along with the many other talented artists coming out of the region. No doubt it's gonna happen. I'ma see to it.
